Dec 20, 2022
Thank you for joining us last Thursday for the December Member Meeting & Virtual Holiday Party! It was a blast catching up with our tourism colleagues for an end-of-year recap while celebrating the holidays in our best festive decorations. Thank you to the NYSTIA Board Chair Kelly Ann Curtin for delivering the opening remarks, Ross Levi for his thoughtful remarks on the holidays, the industry, and the people who work in it, Break the Ice Media for hosting the virtual mixer, and Corporate Communications for providing the fantastic door prizes!
Highlights from the member meeting included presentations from Sally Donovan at Rove on the year's mobile location data insights and out-of-state visitors, and Kellan Kruse at AirDNA with an overview on New York State's short-term rental market and the outlook for 2023. You can view and download both of their presentations below.
We opened up the virtual holiday mixer with a random drawing. Heather Bagshaw was chosen as the lucky attendee who won hotel accommodations, a $100 dinner certificate, and 4 tickets to SPLASH Indoor Water Park in Oswego—the side of the 2023 NYS Tourism Conference! Congratulations to Kristen Aucter for winning a cocktail package from Black Button Distilling in Rochester, where NYSTIA members will convene for the 2023 Annual meeting, for the "Best Holiday Background" featuring Bumble The Abominable Snow Monster of the North from Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. Another round of congratulations to John Taylor for winning a bottle of Great Jones Distillery Four-Grain bourbon for "Most Festive Apparel." For those of you who were able to join us at Great Jones Distillery in New York, a great time was had by all!
Attendees were then separated into breakout rooms for the networking session, where we shared our favorite holiday traditions and top recommendations for celebrating the holidays in New York State. The tradition of gifting windshield-wiper fluid to employees and the magical Dickens Christmas in Skaneateles were two notable festive stories!
As my first full year at NYSTIA ends and I get ready to kick off 2023, I can't help but reflect on the incredible experiences I've had engaging in some of my favorite projects (sustainability, DEAI, developing our new website, Tourism Excellence Awards, advocacy), all the while working with a talented group of people that are so passionate about what they do. I greatly appreciate all of my new tourism colleagues and the valuable lessons they have taught me along the way.
Wishing you all a very happy holiday season and a fantastic New Year!
