Syracuse to Host This Year's Travel Unity Summit
From October 5-7, SUNY ESF (College of Environmental Science and Forestry) will host the 5th annual Travel Unity Summit in Syracuse with the support of Visit Syracuse and Greater Syracuse Hospitality & Tourism Association. NYSTIA will also be involved along with other Travel Unity sponsors, partners and participants. NYSTIA participated in the Travel Unity summit last year, held in the Adirondacks. The summit brought together members of the tourism industry, as well as stakeholders from academia, civil society and politics, to discuss issues around diversity and inclusion, in keeping with their nonprofit mission to increase diversity and inclusion in both the travel industry and the traveling public.
This year's Syracuse summit, with a guiding theme of “Cultivating Welcoming Communities," is not to be missed, especially by anyone that is looking to attract new visitors from diverse populations (age, race, gender, ability etc.) and seeks insight about how the tourism and hospitality industry can be proactive. Discussions are planned around how changes to city infrastructure can help create tourism opportunities and the importance of education, arts, culture and nature in attracting the attention of visitors, in addition to a plenary (with roundtables) that addresses how to market authentically to diverse groups and how organizations can actively use corporate social responsibility campaigns for both marketing and the greater good.
