During last week's Wednesday Webinar Mark Luciano from Brookfield Renewable US presented his topic: What You May Not Know About Hydroelectric Power.

    • Oversees the charitable giving to various organizations in these communities 
  • Footprint in NY State 
    • 74 in the state
    • Nation wide company 
    • Most assets are in Upstate/North Country 
    • Longest lasting native industry in NY State 
    • Contribute jobs, taxes and support tourism in the communities where their dams are located 
    • They keep their properties open to public for recreation - kayaking, canoeing, fishing, hiking and biking trails, bird watching, snowmobiling etc. 
  • What they do 
    • These dams create electricity through capturing the passing water, they also have wind and solar sites based on the community they are working in 
  • Some of their facilities are over 100 years old
    • The life cycle on their hydro infrastructure is much longer than wind or solar
    • They have made investments in fish passages to help preserve the ecology in the water ways
