The Cayuga County Office of Tourism partners with Whetstone Magazine to create a special podcast series honoring Harriet Tubman's life and legacy in New York.
In partnership with Whetstone Magazine, the Cayuga County Office of Tourism has created a new podcast! The entitled series “Walk in Her Footsteps: Harriet Tubman's Life in Auburn, NY" is a four-part series hosted by Tourism Ambassador Beonca Louis and Whetstone Magazine. Follow along with stories, interviews with academics, historians, and descendants to get a new glimpse into the life of this iconic woman.
The podcast will launch on Tuesday, Aug.ust 2 nd , with a new episode dropping each Tuesday. You can listen and download wherever you find your podcasts. The four episodes will feature different themes: “Historical Auburn," “Walking in her Footsteps," and “Aunt Harriet & Her Legacy Today." Each will explore the life of Harriet Tubman, her life's work, how it has impacted the residents of her chosen hometown today— and how her legacy will continue to live on.
The tourism office continues to work to increase the awareness forto the visitors that Auburn, NY was Harriet Tubman's chosen hometown as a free woman. Though she is deservedly revered for her role as an Underground Railroad Conductor, and that she was so much more. that simply an Underground Railroad Conductor.
“She was an ordinary woman who did extraordinary things" said Michelle Galvin Jones, a descendant of Harriet Tubman. Executive Director Karen Kuhl adds,says “Our aim is to reach a whole new audience and edify them to not only this historic figure, but to the beauty and unique place that is the Finger Lakes of New York.".
