A warm reception in Canada's Capital!
Your New York State Tourism Champions booth was at the Ottawa Travel and Vacation Show, held at the Rogers Centre, on April 12th and 13th. Kellie Christopher from the Corning Museum of Glass joined us at the booth. We were in the U.S. pavilion at the show and had a good flow of people coming through.
The attendees were a mix of retirees and families. However, I did notice a decrease in traffic compared to previous years. I picked up on two main sentiments from attendees. Some people are planning to visit New York State no matter what. But the majority shared the same message again and again: "I still love New York State, and I will see you soon!" There was a strong sense that Canadians still see us as friends and neighbors, regardless of what’s going on.
My main message to attendees was that they are always welcome, and that we want to support Canadians however we can. With more Canadian shows on the horizon this year, this show reaffirmed just how important it is to stay connected with the Canadian market—letting them know that when they’re ready, we’re here to welcome them to New York State.
Consumer travel shows are a valuable opportunity to meet travel intenders, answer their questions about New York State destinations, and share possible itinerary ideas. With this in mind, we’re inviting NYSTIA members to join us in the Tourism Champions Booth at travel shows throughout the year. We generally have at least two exhibitor passes available per day per show. Join us for a day—or the whole event!
