"I am excited to take on my new role as Discover Schenectady's Interim Executive Director," says Angela Kelly. "My main focus will be to serve our county by effectively promoting our venues and top tourist attractions, including but certainly not limited to Rivers Casino & Resort, Proctors, our historical landmarks, and the Schenectady County Ale Trail."
Discover Schenectady's mission reflects the rapidly evolving Schenectady County community. "Recent developments have reshaped Schenectady County from an industrial powerhouse into a tourism and entertainment destination," Angela observes, "all while maintaining our strong sense of local pride and insatiable quality of innovation. Our mission is to ensure we are inspiring our visitors to come and experience the revitalization of our amazing county and see for themselves all that Schenectady County has to offer!"
Outside of the office, Angela's life is centered around her family - husband Shaun and six year old son Logan. "I am a fan of good food and wine, captivating books, loyal friends, dogs, and of course football," shares Angela. "Our family enjoys experiencing all that our state and Schenectady County has to offer from hiking in the Adirondacks (smaller mountains only please) to Plotter Kill Preserve in Schenectady County. There's so much to experience - fabulous restaurants featuring New York's farm-to-table best, rich history and beautiful city-and-landscapes. Our family has enjoyed being the tourists right in our very own state." Angela's friends will also tell you that Angela and husband also enjoy following her favorite football team (Go 49ers!) at Schenectady's The Rivers Sportsbook."
Angela is very much involved in the travel and tourism industry. She serves as ESSAE's Membership Chair and she was the 2020 MPI Gala Co-Chair (an event that was held virtually due to COVID).
This is not Angela's first experience working with NYSTIA. "My first involvement with NYSTIA actually came when I worked as an Event Manager at The Desmond Hotel and Conference Center where NYSTIA was my client for Annual Conference," she recalls. "Christine was wonderful to work with then, as she is now! It was a fun and exciting event to plan featuring a NYS Walk Around themed buffet. I'm excited to be even more engaged with my industry colleagues statewide. I am looking forward to rising to the challenge and working hard to keep the momentum in Schenectady County going!"
