- Travel along New York's Empire State Trail, which stretches from New York City to the Canadian Border with host Darley Newman in this new episode of the "Travels with Darley" series on PBS and Ovation TV's JORNEY. Hike and bike the trail, stopping in small towns and big cities for craft beer, local arts and culture.
Visit Albany, Syracuse, Rochester, Schuylerville, Buffalo, Lockport and the Hudson Valley. Explore Erie Canal history. Take an underground boat ride by the Flight of Five Locks and have ice cream in Lockport. Learn about Rochester Accessible Adventures, an organization headed by Anita O'Brien, that's helping people with disabilities get outside and enjoy area trails in Fairport. Meet former rock n roller Tommy Brunett, the touring guitar player for 80's band Modern English and owner of Iron Smoke Distillery. Try craft beer at Faircraft Brewhaus and Seven Story Brewing. Meet the organizer for Mural Mania in Newark and see where art and history intersect for this non-profit helping veterans and the area community.
Go cycling through the Champlain Valley through Schuylerville and Hudson Crossing Park. In the beautiful Hudson Valley, take a walk on the Wallkill Valley Rail Trail outside of Kingston and on the Rosendale Trestle and visit the bridge from the movie A Quiet Place; and New Paltz's Historic Huguenot St. Walk on the Empire State Trail at Walkway Over the Hudson State Historic Park, the longest elevated pedestrian bridge in the world.
About the Trail: The Empire State Trail is a 750-mile bicycling, walking, and hiking route that runs from Buffalo to Albany along the Erie Canalway Trail, and from New York City through the Hudson and Champlain Valleys to Canada. Detailed information including trail segment descriptions and an online map depicting the trail route, designated parking areas, and nearby attractions is available on the project website here. Additionally, interested trail users can order a free large format, printed Empire State Trail map by submitting an email with name and mailing address on the website's Contact Us page.
About Travels with Darley: The new season of “Travels with Darley" is starting on PBS stations. Darley Newman is the founder, host and producer of Travels with Darley on PBS, Amazon Prime and JOURNY. As it starts to run on PBS stations, it will then broadcast again on a nationwide feed on PBS stations through Create TV this spring. On March 1, it will also start on streaming networks through Ovation TV's JOURNY to Roku, Apple TV, Amazon Fire, etc. and be free online to view as well.
